This blog will focus on my current passions - beer, food, and rock and roll.
My journey into the beer drinking world started with the usual tastes of the corporate American pilsners that the majority of people drink - and I hated the stuff. Fortunately my mother had a taste for dark beer and introduced me to Heineken dark which made me realize that there was more out there than "fizzy yellow beer". When brewpubs started to open up in the early 90's I spent some quality drinking time at the PB Brewhouse and started looking for other brewpubs while traveling. I continued to drink craft beer whenever I could get my hands on it, but my real love developed when I first met up with Stone Arrogant Bastard Ale. I bought a bottle for a friend for Christmas as a joke gift in 1997 and couldn't resist picking one up for myself as well. Just one sip and I was in love - and I am still happily drinking it to this day. Over the years more great breweries have continued to pop up in San Diego and I intend to drink as many of them as I can get my hands on, along with great beers from the USA and other small breweries around the world.
As for food, well, we've all got to eat, right? I prefer to eat good food, which does not mean expensive in my book - I like something tasty and filling and will turn my nose up at nouvelle cuisine and pointlessly overpriced eats. Besides, I need something to soak up all that beer! I might even post a recipe or two here sometime.
Rock and roll comes into play since I prefer to do my drinking at bars with live bands or at least a decent jukebox. I fully support local music and go to live shows as often as my schedule allows. You should too.
